Kaleidoscopes the k3n way

A two part workshop taking you from fabric to finished quilt top. Take one fabric, deconstruct it and make it into something new. Reveal the beautiful kaleidoscopes hidden within the fabric and design and create your own unique quilt.

Two x one day workshops scheduled a week or two apart.

Introduction to kaleidoscopes

We’ll create kaleidoscopic effects using a layering and cutting technique to make unique blocks from a single fabric.  Frame them with a solid fabric and piece them together to make a wall hanging, bed runner or lap quilt. This is a more simple variation of my two-part kaleidoscope course.

One day workshop

Freehand machine quilting

Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience come along and build on your skills. We’ll look at various designs from a simple meander to elaborate feathers. I aim to give you enough confidence and technical knowledge to set you on the road to being as addicted to FMQ as I am! Bring your quilt tops and we can come up with some suggestions for quilting them.

One day workshop

Curvaceous Cabins – Introduction to Foundation Piecing

Create a wall hanging or cushion cover using twisted log cabin blocks sewn on paper foundations. Get perfect points and the illusion of curves with straight line sewing. Play with block layouts and make them twist and turn to your will.

One day workshop

Fantastic Fabric Folding

Origami using fabric! Take a square, fold it, sew it and you have a 3D Pinwheel, Prairie Point or Flying Geese. Create a wall hanging, cushion covers or perhaps a play mat or crib quilt—babies love these. Included to take home are two patterns using the techniques demonstrated - one to make a wall hanging or cushion cover and one for a larger lap quilt.

One day workshop

Fabric Collage Landscapes

Bring a favourite landscape photo for inspiration and build a fabric collage using fabric scraps as your 'palette'. I'll be demonstrating a number of techniques to give your piece depth and interest as well as explaining options for embellishing it with decorative stitching, either freemotion 'thread-painting' or straight and zig zag stitch (or a combination!) depending on your preference.
