“Scorhill Circle”

This was my first piece in this mixed media style. I took inspiration from a postcard purchased on a visit to Dartmoor, where this stone circle stands. The landscape background is pieced and the standing stones appliqued and then the piece is embellished with fabrics of several types (cotton velvet, organza, mesh, even nylon stockings!) as well as materials such as silk waste and specialist yarns. The piece is heavily freehand machine quilted, framed with batik, sandwiched with a cotton blend stable wadding and machine quilted and bound.

The quilt measures 25” x 19” and is in a private collection.
