“Genoeg Ganzen”

The inspiration for this quilt came from the sight of the setting sun behind winter-bare trees when driving home to the West Country. The background is a piece of silk and hemp fabric purchased in France which I shaded with Markal sticks before appliqueing the sun, thread painting the trees and freehand machine quilting the sky, lake and grasses. The ‘flying geese’ were constructed using the 3D one-seam method from a reproduction Dutch chintz and then appliqued to the background. My (Dutch) boyfriend came up with the name which means ‘Enough Geese’. It was awarded a Highly Commended at the Festival of Quilts 2012.

The quilt measures 28” x 51” and is for sale.
